I have been back at work full time for two weeks now and have found it hard work to try and keep up with any form of exercise. I am struggling just to find time to walk around the block for ten or twenty minutes at night, where does all the time go?
This has had a strange effect on my, I am suffering withdrawal symptoms from lack of exercise! I feel lethargic and restless and I really needed to get out and about this weekend, the only problem was it was Bank Holiday and I could not face the traffic. Sarah was away for the weekend and John was committed elsewhere so I was left to my own devices. I would usually think about one of the outlying fells but I did not feel like traveling far, in fact the thought of Bank Holiday traffic made my stomach turn! I needed something much nearer.
Fair Snape Fell, I had never really heard of this place until a gent named Bob that I met on the Cardiac Rehab course mentioned it. I have looked at it for many years without really knowing what it was. It is part of the Forest of Bowland , the first high ground in from the Fylde Coast between Preston and Lancaster . In my ignorance I always thought that this moorland was private shooting territory of the Duke of Westminster, as such I have never considered walking in the area. It was going to be my first real attempt at a walk involving some altitude since my heart attack and although I knew it was not exactly high I can remember the sight of the slopes of Parlick being very steep, a nice circular walk appeared from the map and after putting off the walk on Saturday cos it was raining (I can be picky now!), Sunday because of a horse show, Bank holiday Monday was the day. Thankfully I woke to a glorious blue sky (phew!) So I left home and drove for half an hour or so before parking up and setting off at 10am on the dot, a very early walking start time for me!
